Agentic AI: Is your infrastructure ready for ’employees’ of code?

AI agents in an industrial environment

We have just left the phase where AI was something we chatted with to get answers. Now we are entering the phase where AI actually does things for us. Gartner predicts that by the end of this year – 2026 – 40% of all enterprise software will contain autonomous agents. It’s no longer just a tool in the hands of a human; it’s a digital worker that makes its own decisions. The question is whether your IT environment is capable of providing these agents with the conditions they need.

Remember 2024 and 2025? Back then, it was all about “Copilots”. We asked an AI to summarize a meeting or draft an email. But now we’re seeing a fundamental shift towards what’s called Agentic AI. The difference is huge. An agent is given a goal – for example, “optimize inventory levels for component X” – and then it goes out, analyzes the data, talks to suppliers’ systems, and places actual orders.

AWS has already rolled out over 900 ready-made agents on its marketplace. But for a Swedish industrial company, it’s not enough to just “buy an agent”. The challenge lies in building the highway that these agents will drive on.

When automation becomes autonomy: What’s under the hood?

What distinguishes an agent from regular automation is the ability to reason and act on dynamic information. This places completely new demands on your infrastructure. If an agent is to make real-time decisions on a factory floor, we can’t afford delays (latency) or the system “losing its way” due to poor data availability.

Computing power on demand (Compute)

Agents never rest. Unlike a human who shuts down the computer at five o’clock, agents need access to inference (computational power for decisions) around the clock. That requires an architecture that can scale up and down at lightning speed without breaking the budget.

Living data pipelines

An agent is only as smart as the data it can see. Static databases are not enough. For an agent to work in industry, it needs access to streaming data from production, the business system and external sources – simultaneously.

Security and Guardrails

This is the critical part. What happens if an agent hallucinates and orders 1000 tons of steel too much? Or if it gains access to data it shouldn’t see? We need to build in digital guardrails that limit the agent’s scope of action without strangling its effectiveness.

Why sovereignty is key for Swedish agents

When we talk about agents making decisions in the core business, we inevitably come to the question of where the brain actually is. Sending business-critical decision-making processes to a public cloud under foreign jurisdiction is a risk that many Swedish companies are no longer willing to take, especially given the requirements now imposed by the EU AI Act.

This is where we at Aixia see that the local, sovereign infrastructure becomes crucial. By running your agents in an environment that you actually control, you can ensure that decisions are made within Sweden’s borders and that the data never goes astray.

AiQu: Your orchestration engine for agents

To successfully go from single tests to a whole “force” of AI agents requires orchestration. This is where our platform AiQu really shines. AiQu is built to handle exactly this kind of complexity – ensuring that the right agent gets the right computational power at the right time, and that data flows are secured.

We help Swedish industrial companies prepare for this wave. It’s not just about installing a new piece of software, but about designing an environment where human and agent can work side by side without compromising security or performance.

Let’s be honest: if you still see AI as just an advanced search function, you risk being left behind. 2026 is the year when AI agents start doing actual work. The question is, have you given them the tools and the environment they need to succeed?
