For the past few years, the discussion around AI has been about what it can do – how it writes code, creates images or streamlines customer service. But now the focus is shifting. The key question for 2026 is no longer just what AI can do, but where it lives and who is in control.

The hidden challenge of digital sovereignty

Today, most European companies rely on cloud giants from the US or Asia to run their most advanced AI models. This has worked well as a starting point, but it brings challenges that we can no longer ignore: data integrity, regulatory compliance and the lack of local control.

If we are to build the industry and welfare of the future on AI, can we rely entirely on infrastructure controlled from the other side of the world? We don’t think so.

Three forces, one common goal

Together with our partners evroc and Opper, we have created Build Nordic AI. It’s not just a project name – it’s a clear signal that the Nordics intend to take a leadership role in the global AI ecosystem.

Evroc is building the foundation: a sustainable, hyperscalable cloud infrastructure on European soil.

Opper brings the intelligent platform that makes it possible to actually scale AI services effectively.

At Aixia, we bring our expertise in applied AI and specialized infrastructure to close the loop and deliver solutions that work in the real world.

When we presented this at the recent NVIDIA GTC in Silicon Valley, it became clear that the world is watching us. The Nordic region is uniquely positioned – we have renewable energy, we have world-class technical expertise and we have a tradition of trust and transparency.

What does this mean for our customers?

For you as an entrepreneur or IT leader, Build Nordic AI is about security and competitiveness. It’s about being able to scale your AI initiatives without having to worry about data going astray or being locked into solutions that do not comply with European rules.

We are building a platform where security and scalability go hand in hand. A platform that is “Sovereign by design”.

The future is local (but with global ambition)

We are incredibly proud to be part of this movement. Build Nordic’s AI is our contribution to a digitally independent Europe, and we’ve only just begun.

Are you curious about how we can help your organization take the next step in the AI journey in a safe and scalable way?
